SPPD package for
SME tourism companies
The road shows to Danang, Hue and HCMC on 25 to 26 June have brought greater awareness ofthe show to the industry. In order to assist the small and medium industry to capitalise ontheabundant opportunities available during ITE HCMC 2008 which include:
- Meeting 150 international buyers from 20 countries
- Network with 250 tourism officials from ASEM Tourism Forum (26 European countries and 13 ASEAN)
- Meeting 1,500 corporate buyers from TCOD (Three Countries One Destination)
- Reach out to 10,000 public visitors from Mekong Sub-Region
- Establish relationship with TA/TO from two major hubs in HCMC & Hanoi
organisers of ITE HCMC 2008 proposed a Special Promotion Package to the Provincial Department of Tourism Offices in Vietnam (“SPPD”) for the provincial DOT with a marketing theme to lead a group of local hotels/TA/TO to the event for international exchange and business transactions with international and local buyers.
All participating exhibitors under the DOT theme pavilion will be given a SELLER badge which is a passport to all events in the show such as the ITE Friendship Golf* , Buyer/Seller Speed Dating , Opening Ceremony, Buyer/Seller Meeting, Buyer/Seller Luncheon, ITE Networking Cocktail Party. With the support of DOT Danang, Hue and HCMC, the organisers were able to meet members of the travel and tourism industry to increase awareness of ITE HCMC 2008. Useful dialogue and exchange were instrumental in the development of the SPPD package to help the small and medium companies in the province. 29 representatives from 21 companies in Danang, 28 representatives from 19 companies in Hue, and 25 representatives from 20 companies in HCMC have attended this road show with better understanding of the buyer and seller meeting for international marketing.
“SPPD is a good concept and an excellent incentive for DOT to lead a group of local industry to ITE HCMC 2008” remarked Mr Ho Minh Phoung, Director of Danang Tourism Promotion Center when speaking at the Saigontorane Hotel, the seminar venue.
Mr Phan Tien Dzung, Director of Culture, Sport and tourism of Thua Thien Hue Province further emphasised, “It will be an opportunity for DOT Hue to showcase the City of Festivals with the full support of a group of hotels, travel agencies and tour operators to ITE HCMC 2008.”
“We are excited that the new package will be able to help small and medium companies, giving them equal opportunity to meet the 150 international buyers and 250 ASEM tourism officials” commented Mdm Vui, Director of DOT HCMC.

Marketing Road Show to Mekong districts planned for July 2008 |

With the success of the recent road shows, the organisers will have similar road shows to Mekong districts from 15 and 18 July. There will be four seminars in total with convenient pre-selected venues. They are: |

ITPC leads the investment seminar on tourism development and investment in HCMC |
People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has decided that the investment seminar on tourism development and investment of Ho Chi Minh City will be a government funded project. The seminar will be free to all interested parties when visiting ITE HCMC 2008. The seminar will be held at the seminar room at the exhibition hall or selected hotel and pre-registration is required for reservation and seats will be available on first come first serve basis.
ITPC (Investment and Trade Promotion Center of Ho Chi Minh City) with close collaboration with IIR, is the designated organiser for this seminar. The number of attendee is expected to be more than 200 persons. Details of the seminar will be released in next month’s edition of this newsletter. |

Automated buyer-seller on-line appointment by August 2008 |
The manual appointment setting for ITE buyers and sellers will be replaced with an online automated buyer seller appointment software called Pre-Schedule Appointment (PSA), which will debut in early August 2008, one month before the show. All registered and approved buyers and all registered sellers will be given an access code to the website. A log-on seller will be able to view buyers’ profile and secure instant appointments with the automated appointment schedule, and vice versa. In addition, both buyers and sellers are able to contact each other directly and exchange information even before the show. This will greatly enhance the productivity and effectiveness of the match making process.
However, F2F speed dating will remain available on 11 September for those who need assistance for last minute appointment setting before the start of the Buyer Induction Seminar on “Ethnic Tourism”, while those who are well prepared could play golf in the morning or take a city tour/shopping. All hosted buyers are expected at the speed dating session to meet sellers for last minute arrangement or connection.
Increasing quantity and quality of buyer application for acceptance
With the help of the ITE Advisory Board, the number of applications has been speedily qualified for process. 70% of the targeted 150 quality buyers from 20 countries have registered for the hosted buyers programme. Emphasis on quality will be paramount for this year’s presentation for a good quality versus quantity balance.

250 tourism officials from 28 European countries and 17 ASEAN to meet |
VNAT will be hosting the ASEM Senior Tourism Meet 2008 for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City in conjunction with ITE HCMC 2008. This key activity and forum presents an excellent opportunity for ITE HCMC attendees including buyers, sellers, exhibitors to understand the tourism culture and policy of 28 European countries and 17 ASEAN countries. It is an opportunity for exchange, interaction and networking.
ASEM Meet will be held at the Rex Hotel from 11-12 September. Participants can expect Ho Chi Minh City to be dressed up with street banners to welcome the tourism guests from 45 countries and regions.

Good turnout of Press Conference on 30 June 2008 |
A total of 35 journalist/reporters representing 28 major local media attended the press conference of ITE HCMC 2008 held at the office of HCMC Department of Tourism on 30 June 2008. Key personnel who attended the press conference include Mdm Dong Thi Kim Vui, Director of HCMC Department of Tourism; Mr La Qouc Khanh, Deputy Director of HCMC Department of Tourism; Mr Pham Quynh Giang, Deputy General Director of Vinexad; and Mr Alex Eow from Binet/IIR Exhibitions.
Mdm Vui, Director of HCMC Department of Tourism, gave a welcome address followed by presentation of exhibition updates, HCMC Tourism Week update and buyer programme update. Mr La Quoc Khanh, Deputy Director, HCMC Department of Tourism chaired the Q&A session with a panel company of Mr Pham Qunh Giang of Vinexad and Mr Alex Eow of Binet/IIR.
